Queer Global Ended the year with a Slam – a Poetry Slam!

Queer Global in association with Generation Q NYC,  Jaago.life California, and Sheltering Arms NY hosted a FREE Youth Poetry Slam and Zoom hangout to close out the year. This highly interactive and inclusive Zoom party hosted a diverse group of young LGBTQIA+ poets from around the world in a celebration of having made it through an extremely challenging year.

CEO of Jaago.life, Kevin Shah, and our own Marketing Associate, Angelica Paramoshin co-hosted the event and created a space that is safe, lively, and upbeat! Our Special guest DeShara Suggs-Joe, a multi-published poet and author performed one of her many written works.

WHAT?
This is a fun event for LGBTQIA+ youth and allies to chat and hangout virtually. The highlight of the event is the Poetry Slam, a friendly competition where poets have three minutes each to deliver a performance piece. Attendees will then vote for the winner and runner up through the chat. Attendees can also participate in the event through chat, ice breakers, and interactive games with prizes. Special Guest Poet DeShara Darshell, a multi-slam winner and illustrator, will also make an appearance!

We are looking for creative young people from 13-20 years of age to perform in one of the six guest spots. If you would like to apply, please follow the link below.

WHY?
This holiday season, LGBTQIA+ youth all over the globe are going through a tough time. School closures, virtual learning, lockdowns and disruption to their routines have made their lives and the lives of those who care for them really challenging. The goal of this event is to bring queer youth together and close out the year with a fun virtual event to spark everyone’s creativity and lift their spirits.

WHO?
Queer Global is a New York City-based community organization dedicated to uplifting and empowering LGBTQIA+ people across the globe with free access to information, resources, mutual aid, and quality care.
Generation Q NYC is an after-school youth center for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer youth and allies, between the ages of 13 and 21. They offer a friendly, safe environment with a wide variety of educational and recreational opportunities, as well as social and emotional support.
Jaago.life seeks to build a world that prioritizes empathy, understanding, and daily learning among all people.
Sheltering Arms NY addresses the effects of social inequity in the most challenged communities in New York City by providing shelter to families.
